The Story of the Recycling Symbol

In 1970, during a university competition held in the United States, the recycling symbol was designed by Gary Anderson, a 23 year old graphic design student. Since then, it has become one of the most powerful icons of global environmental awareness.

With its three arrows following one another, the symbol represents the circularity of nature and the reuse of resources. Appearing on millions of products and packages, this simple symbol has become a universal expression of the sustainability movement.
